Etiquette and scams to know

✓ Do

  • Wai (slight bow with hands together) to greet, especially with elders.
  • Cover shoulders and knees when visiting temples.
  • Don't touch anyone's head, including children.

✕Don't

  • Disrespecting the king or royal family (literally illegal).
  • Stepping over food or people while seated.

⚠️ Common scams to know

  • "The Grand Palace is closed" — it's not, this is a tuk-tuk scam to take you to gem shops.
  • Jet ski rental damage scams in Phuket.
  • Tuk-tuks offering "100 baht city tour" — they take you shopping.
