- Be punctual for appointments and social engagements; lateness is considered rude
- Wait for a toast of 'Prost' with eye contact before drinking, and clink glasses individually
- Dress neatly and modestly; Austrians value tidy, put-together appearances
- Keep your voice down in public and respect quiet hours, especially on Sundays

- Do not confuse Austria with Germany or assume they are the same; Austrians value their distinct identity
- Do not make jokes or references to Nazis and World War II, which is highly offensive
- Do not jaywalk, as crossing against a red pedestrian light is frowned upon and can be fined
- Do not be loud, brash, or skip greetings, which is seen as poor manners
